Yes CASTLE FREAK was based on one of his earliest short stories THE OUTSIDER, I mentioned that in the first paragraph. A dreadful episode in my view, but I wasn't really surprised about that.Shaun Anderson [The Celluloid Highway]https://www.blogger.com/profile/18066744649878418309noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-85604869830624945732010-12-31T22:20:03.117+00:002010-12-31T22:20:03.117+00:00Not even DAGON Shaun? I don't like this updated version of the story at all, I gloss over it every time we watch the series.I Like Horror Movieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15851268002582984544noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-52154396404026498212010-12-20T22:18:43.821+00:002010-12-20T22:18:43.821+00:00The only film based on a Lovecraft work that I rat...The only film based on a Lovecraft work that I rate highly is RE-ANIMATOR. In saying that though I think Gordon's best film is DOLLS. I think we are still waiting for a wholly satisfying screen version that approximates the feel and atmosphere of Lovecraft. This episode of MASTERS OF HORROR certainly doesn't achieve that.Shaun Anderson [The Celluloid Highway]https://www.blogger.com/profile/18066744649878418309noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-49684549864664768102010-12-20T18:44:09.892+00:002010-12-20T18:44:09.892+00:00I personally enjoyed this film, but Im a huge Gord...I personally enjoyed this film, but Im a huge Gordon nut. The story its based on is far more epic, we actually visit the witches dimension, and its far more surreal and otherwordly then what we see in the film. This, like many of Gordons H.P. Lovecraft adaptations takes certain elements from Lovecrafts stories and expands on them, they are never really a literal adaptation. Yes I've seen CURSE OF THE CRIMSON ALTAR - wonderful cast including Boris Karloff, Christopher Lee, Barbara Steele, Michael Gough and Rupert Davies...as an adaptation of Lovecraft quite terrible, but a lot of fun and much more enjoyable than this version.Shaun Anderson [The Celluloid Highway]https://www.blogger.com/profile/18066744649878418309noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-37751444419657557552010-12-20T17:18:32.156+00:002010-12-20T17:18:32.156+00:00I remember enjoying the old 1968 adaption of this ...I remember enjoying the old 1968 adaption of this that went under the title Curse Of The Crimson alter.
