It is without a doubt his best film, but unfortunately that isn't saying a great deal. I haven't had the pleasure of DEVIL FISH and don't ever expect too :-)

@ Ben - I have to confess I'm not a fan of either of the DEMONS films either. I think the only Lamberto Bava films I've seen are the "Demons" ones, and whilst I think they're brilliant fun, I can easily see why he might not quite be the go-to guy for a movie that demands, say, characters or a storyline... would still like to see this one though, if only to confirm for myself his lousiness as a serious filmmaker...Benhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14951955227326548340noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-35151422091691295712011-01-18T01:18:24.952+00:002011-01-18T01:18:24.952+00:00I never bothered with this one for much the way yo...I never bothered with this one for much the way you feel about Lamberto, Shaun. I never picked up MACABRE, either. He also did a terminally horrible movie after this one, but before DEMONS called DEVIL FISH aka DEVOURING WAVES about a giant shark/octopus creature starring Michael Sopkiw and Gianni Garko.venoms5https://www.blogger.com/profile/13655919099947763891noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-82693050822030586512011-01-17T17:22:16.256+00:002011-01-17T17:22:16.256+00:00It could do with being re-issued with an original ...It could do with being re-issued with an original language track, that might help it considerably. Filmmakers were producing textbook giallo's that epitomised the form in 1971 Carl, so I dont see this as something in its favour to be honest.Shaun Anderson [The Celluloid Highway]https://www.blogger.com/profile/18066744649878418309noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-45894851412018739822011-01-15T17:29:28.345+00:002011-01-15T17:29:28.345+00:00I always find it to be one of the more entertainin...I always find it to be one of the more entertaining Gialli, and one of Bava's better films. Plenty of bloody violence to quench my thirst, but certainly not one of the key examples in the genre. and while it may not be one of the best examples, it is one of the Gialli that epitomizes most of the defining characteristics for me.I Like Horror Movieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15851268002582984544noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-22329517697204933182011-01-14T19:01:57.105+00:002011-01-14T19:01:57.105+00:00Cheers James :-) - I might re-watch BLOOD AND BLAC...Cheers James :-) - I might re-watch BLOOD AND BLACK LACE myself...have a good one!

Arrow Video recently put out a superb BAY OF BLOOD package Franco - a 2 disc standard definition DVD release with the English language and original Italian cut of the film, and the same package on Blu Ray. I've yet to see a couple of his films: Im dying to see Planet of the Vampires, but that one seems to be unavailable through netflix (only on instant watch, and I cant watch them that way yet) and Bay of Blood is another one I need to catch up with.Franco Macabrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994905312221715861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-1764262666169148982011-01-14T16:33:48.798+00:002011-01-14T16:33:48.798+00:00Glad to hear that was a typo! I love most of Mario Bava's films - thanks for the comment James. I have actually myself written positive things about A BLADE IN THE DARK in the past based on a false memory. MACABRE is hands down Bava Jnr's best film, but even that is average at best. It is made distinctive by the weird subject matter. I've read quite a few positive things about this and would still be quite keen to check it out. I quite like the idea of it being a textbook giallo - with added reflexivity. I've also read mainly positive things about Bava Jnr's directorial debut, Macabre - though I&#James Graceyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08968719719213071671noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-81739456308701036612011-01-13T21:26:32.199+00:002011-01-13T21:26:32.199+00:00Hi there Franco! - No I didn't like this at al...Hi there Franco! - No I didn't like this at all. My own memories of it from when I first watched it about ten years ago deceived me. Of course since then I have probably watched the better part of 100 giallo films, and compared to most of them it is awful. I'm not fan of Bava Snr at all, I didnt think much of DEMONS or MACABRE either, though I would class the latter as his best film.Shaun Anderson [The Celluloid Highway]https://www.blogger.com/profile/18066744649878418309noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-32396838444332959562011-01-13T20:46:13.398+00:002011-01-13T20:46:13.398+00:00Wow, you really hated this one didnt ya! I hear ya man, I was never convinced by Lamberto's work, I've seen a few of his films and they dont even reach the level of classy awesomeness that his fathers films achieved. I wasnt a big fan of SHOCK, Mario Bava's last film, which he made in collaboration with Lamberto.Franco Macabrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994905312221715861noreply@blogger.com
