It is possible that less genre savvy individuals may not know that A BAY OF BLOOD and TWITCH OF THE DEATH NERVE are the same film. I'm not against the mindless and moronic 80's slashers totally Carl. It is just that I dont think I have the patience. I have trouble deciding for myself whether I prefer this or BLOOD AND BLACK LACE as my favorite Bava Slasher, but the deaths are so elaborate and frequent in BAY OF BLOOD that I have to side with it. I still say you are missing out on a lot of mindless entertainment in the 80s Slashers Shaun!I Like Horror Movieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15851268002582984544noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-67486966528416168762011-01-20T13:58:59.363+00:002011-01-20T13:58:59.363+00:00I had the the Ortolani soundtrack on CD long befor...I had the the Ortolani soundtrack on CD long before I'd actually seen the film James. I think the principal theme is one of the best pieces of music composed for a horror film. As you quite rightly point out it works as an emotive counterpoint for the terrible images.

I haven't listened to Tim Lucas's commentary for A BAY OF BLOOD, but I have listened to the one he did forShaun Anderson [The Celluloid Highway]https://www.blogger.com/profile/18066744649878418309noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-23249171237057333142011-01-20T00:27:06.707+00:002011-01-20T00:27:06.707+00:00One element of Cannibal Holocaust which surprised ...One element of Cannibal Holocaust which surprised me most was the lush score by Riz Ortolani. At times its beauty contradicts the atrocities depicted on the screen in an almost defiant manner.

Great review of Bay of Blood, Shaun. This is one of my favourite Bava movies, I think; though I only came to that conclusion after I watched it with Tim Lucas's commentary. Too many reviews of CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST say more about the person writing it than the film itself. It's an incredibly powerful film in its uncut form, and deceptively well made. I've not reviewed it, but I've discussed it at least twice in articles on my site and briefly in an upcoming piece. The film raises just as many questions as it answers I think. I tried to downplay its slasher connections, because I get bored myself about reading that all the time. It's a bit like CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST and the animal cruelty. I aim to write the first review of that film, that doesn't spend a paragraph going on about Deodato's dubious morality.Shaun Anderson [The Celluloid Highway]https://www.blogger.com/profile/18066744649878418309noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-50808673440491524022011-01-18T22:29:58.410+00:002011-01-18T22:29:58.410+00:00I'm a bit surprised, actually. I love the Christopher Lee anecdote! - his reaction wouldn't at all surprise me, he is something of a pompous prude. He clearly didn't get the joke, unsurprising as he seems to lack a sense of humour. It's not what I'd call 'High Bava', but then I do think Bava peaked quite early. It would be wonderful to hear his thoughts on this and what his initial reaction was upon realizing it wasn't the usual Bava foray into the fantastique. Not my favorite Bava, but a fascinating film especially in context of what has come since.venoms5https://www.blogger.com/profile/13655919099947763891noreply@blogger.com
