I think his characters always have an inbuilt pomposity that is a reflection of the man. I'm a great admirer of Peter Cushing though. I think maybe their decision to understate the transformation was an attempt to (a) distinguish their adaptation from others and (b) adhere more strongly to the source material. I wonder why they made that choice to NOT show his transformation on screen?
