The rape scene is a peculiar and grubby moment without context that seems totally gratuitous and out of place. I haven't seen RUBBER'S LOVER, so I'll have to try and unearth that one myself.Shaun Anderson [The Celluloid Highway]https://www.blogger.com/profile/18066744649878418309noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-34091317608837032682011-08-20T23:17:28.233+01:002011-08-20T23:17:28.233+01:00This movie has been on my Unearthed Films to-see-l...This movie has been on my Unearthed Films to-see-list for a long time. I'm glad someone watched it for me. There always seems to be a harsh rape scene thrown into these types of Japanese films, especially from the late 80s to 1990s. One such captivating film that happened to have a nasty scene like that thrown in was Rubber's Lover. Not really a good movie, but very watchable in an odd Mr. Xploit, Esquirehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16138382425928608462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-47544526812621800712011-07-29T23:35:52.474+01:002011-07-29T23:35:52.474+01:00Thanks Richard, I appreciate it greatly. I'll try and get around to the sequel, but that very much depends on the status of its distribution in the UK. I don't hold out much hope.Shaun Anderson [The Celluloid Highway]https://www.blogger.com/profile/18066744649878418309noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-23170992643270891732011-07-27T20:38:12.397+01:002011-07-27T20:38:12.397+01:00It's good to see a review of EDT that isn'...It's good to see a review of EDT that isn't completely dismissive. I love this flawed film and it's very flawed sequel. A potential influence on SAW though, but whatever the language, I just can't seem to get along with slasher films. Apart from a few special exceptions of course.Shaun [The Celluloid Highway]http://sonofcelluloid.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-90534228347771646282011-07-11T23:39:38.363+01:002011-07-11T23:39:38.363+01:00Great review as always, Shaun. Not sure why as they seemed what I was most interested in at the time. The second and third films are supposedly not as good as this one. I see the Synapse DVD is still available for part 1.venoms5https://www.blogger.com/profile/13655919099947763891noreply@blogger.com
