Consternation! Seriously,I am partial to the book and have read it many times over the decades. Matter of opinion. My favorite film versions are the Spanish version and the BBC production with Louis Jourdan Dalehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17050780812342957714noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-87490200075931617972013-01-20T21:45:56.144+00:002013-01-20T21:45:56.144+00:00Its good to be back Franco! I hope you're doing well, and everything is good in your part of the world...Couldn't agree with you more on DRACULA. I think the Spanish version has novelty, but isn't appreciably better. It obviously lacks Lugosi, which is a major weakness on its part.Shaun Anderson [The Celluloid Highway]https://www.blogger.com/profile/18066744649878418309noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-30726410911351258632013-01-20T21:43:59.131+00:002013-01-20T21:43:59.131+00:00Cheers Brian! - There is a lot I don't like ab...Cheers Brian! - There is a lot I don't like about DRACULA, but fortunately FRANKENSTEIN doesn't suffer from the same shortcomings...I look forward to slotting that one in and returning to an old favourite.Shaun Anderson [The Celluloid Highway]https://www.blogger.com/profile/18066744649878418309noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-19865077995295584782013-01-20T21:42:07.330+00:002013-01-20T21:42:07.330+00:00I managed to pick up a copy of the blu-ray release...I managed to pick up a copy of the blu-ray release for £27, which I thought was a bargain. Agree about Dracula, it has its moments in the beginning when we meet Dracula in his castle, but after he leaves his castle, the movie turns into a complete bore. Gotta give them kudos for achieving a film thats this iconic with so little money, but yeah, this one is certainly not without its faults. I hear the Spanish version is somewhat superiorFranco Macabrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994905312221715861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-63680983216738776772013-01-18T06:23:43.113+00:002013-01-18T06:23:43.113+00:00Great review, Shaun. Since it's OOP, I'll have to settle for the separate discs, which is fine considering the faulty discs on the Frankenstein set.

The only thing I remember about DRACULA was there was something I didn't like about it when venoms5https://www.blogger.com/profile/13655919099947763891noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-67912179277841772942013-01-17T23:06:33.670+00:002013-01-17T23:06:33.670+00:00I must admit I was tempted my the blu-ray release,...I must admit I was tempted my the blu-ray release, but it was only last year that I purchased this The Monster Legacy DVD collection and have only just this year got around to cracking on with it. Still, it's reassuring to hear that the films look good on blu!

The Spanish version (which I only watched yesterday) certainly has novelty value, but I found the actor playing Dracula Liam Underwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13266853392221837353noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-9077576077862387882013-01-17T22:24:19.384+00:002013-01-17T22:24:19.384+00:00Cheers Liam! And even better that you agree with almost everything I say in the review. :-) I will review the Spanish version, but I'll probably do that one last. I do remember it being more watchable than the English language version, and it does have novelty value. It's great fun returning to these films, especially as they are presented in such Shaun Anderson [The Celluloid Highway]https://www.blogger.com/profile/18066744649878418309noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751360814489146754.post-34454144862857591142013-01-17T20:36:10.277+00:002013-01-17T20:36:10.277+00:00Gotta say I agree with almost everything here Shau...Gotta say I agree with almost everything here Shaun! After quite a superb first act the pacing just makes the rest of the film somewhat of a slog, only rescued by Lugosi's glowering performance. I watched this with my girlfriend, and it's always concerning when she can fall asleep for ten minutes and miss nothing of any real significance.

However, one point of dispute - I Liam Underwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13266853392221837353noreply@blogger.com
