Giallo Poster Gallery

For your viewing pleasure The Celluloid Highway is proud to present a selection of poster images for some of the more distinctive productions in the giallo cycle. There are 30 in all, which is only the merest fraction of the films classified as gialli. The criteria for inclusion was entirely subjective, so if any of your favourites have been omitted I apologise beforehand. The only thing left to do is pour yourself another triple measure of J&B, make sure your windows and doors are securely locked, and enjoy this fine selection of images.

  1. Stagefright is such an awesome movie, I was really happy the other day when I learned that Soavi will be directing a sequel himself to Dellmorte Dellamore, aka Cemetary Man!

I need to see The Girl Who Knew Too Much! Awesome poster gallery, all these movies seem to be concerned with animal metaphors, sex and death!

  2. Thanks for the comment Franco; I totally agree with you on STAGEFRIGHT. I didn't know Soavi was planning a sequel to DELLAMORTE DELLAMORE, that is exciting news indeed. I also have a soft spot for his other two films THE CHURCH and THE SECT - an underrated filmmaker overshadowed (like so many others) by Dario Argento.

My favourites in this gallery would have to be BLACK BELLY OF THE TARANTULA, THE BLOODSTAINED SHADOW, and FOUR FLIES ON GREY VELVET...I think the latter is the best poster image for any Argento film - it's a shame the film itself is somewhat dull and tepid.

  3. I only watched STAGEFRIGHT for the first time a month or so ago and was surprised how much I enjoyed it.
As for the posters: I really dig the BLOOD AND BLACK LACE one as it mirrors the original yellow paperback gialli.

  4. Thanks for stopping by Holger - Yes BLOOD AND BLACK LACE is a very cool poster. In my opinion it is also the defining film of the cycle.

  5. Ack, where did my comment go? Summary: best posters = EVIL EYE and EVELYN out of this bunch, and based on what I have seen of the films, B+BL is by far the best. As a personal favorite, I just love TENEBRE as well, flawed as it may be.
