Stanley Kubrick's science-fiction masterpiece needs no introduction from me. Kubrick is a true celluloid hero of mine, and his epic grandiose tale of the origins of mankind remains a landmark in cinematic history. Here is a selection of lobby cards released to promote the film in cinemas.

I've just bought 2001 on Blu-Ray. I'm looking forward to seeing it again. I've never been entirely convinced by the plot but with so many iconic images who needs plot?
ReplyDeleteWell, try reading Leonard Wheat's 2000 book,Kubrick's 2001;A Triple Allegory, shows how all events and people come from Homer's Odyssey(HAL=Cyclops, hibernators=sailors who eat lotus, fall asleep,TMA-1=Trojan Horse, etc)and Nietzsche's Thus Spoke zarathustra(which also opens at dawn, ending with the hero's interrupted last supper!)here HAL=God,made in man's image,so beyond the infinite=beyond (the death of)God.Or read his Blurred Horizon essays,Misconceptions about 2001 and Fresh insights into 2001,if you don't get the book.
