It's certainly up there with the best remakes of all time yes, the other I tend to nominate for consideration of that mantle is Cronenberg's excellent reinterpretation of THE FLY.
Carpenters The Thing still stands up well 30yrs since it release! I usually watch this at least once a year, shame about the newly released prequel though.........
