My favorite one is the one for The Thing, it just looks and sounds so cool, I also love the one for The Fog, because it opens the film with such atmosphere.
Cheers for the comment Franco - I think I'd nominate BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA or THEY LIVE.
It's interesting to see how early the John Carpenter branding kicked in. This is a cracking feature, lovely caps!
I like The Thing and They Live too, but my favourite is The Fog.
@ Mike - Yeah by HALLOWEEN it was already established, I'm surprised that it is still maintained by distributors. Since VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED the only information the name John Carpenter above a title has communicated is 'don't watch this film.'@ James - A three way tie at the moment between THE THING, THEY LIVE, and THE FOG. Hopefully someone will offer a decisive vote.
I'm a big fan of ESCAPE FROM LA. Lots of fun that one and filled with great bits of dialog and an amazing cast. I've never been able to understand why it gets so much negativity directed towards it. A shame the third installment never materialized. ESCAPE FROM EARTH I think was the title they were going for. There was also a Snake Plissken video game that was advertised but never appeared. I have the sleeve for it around here somewhere.THE FOG is another huge fave. I'm glad it's gotten its long overdue respect it deserves. The opening sequence is one of the single best for a horror film ever.
I've long avoided ESCAPE FROM L.A. - not out of any loyalty to the first film, but the name John Carpenter is a big turn off for me now. Therefore a good number of his films post THEY LIVE I have avoided. Including IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS which I gather is quite highly thought of by some. Yes THE FOG is a fine film, and it was an important part of Carpenter's early success. I still think his run of films from DARK STAR through to THE THING, irrelevant of what came later, makes him one of the best filmmakers to emerge out of the US in the 1970's.
